The importance of a 1000ms load time.

For a machine to seem like it’s working it needs to respond in 1000ms or less.

Really? When is the last time you where on a website that loads in under 1000ms? I thought so.

While it is a tall order to design sites that load that fast there is some real research that backs up why it’s important. Patrick Hamann from The Guardian recently did a very interesting talk on why the 1000ms barrier is so important when building websites. He also looks at some interesting ways to achieve this difficult task.

Ilya Grigorik from Google also did a fantastic talk on the subject back in early 2013.
